SUR
ROUNDINGS

Kayuputih - A mountain Village above Damai Lovina Villas. Plantation of Cacao, Coffee, mango, tobacco, cloves and birds nest. You can see the processing of these products. Breathtaking views of the northern coastline – from java’s volcanoes in the west, to Bali’s east coast. Hikes through rice terraces and forests. Meet the villagers and have a (self roasted) coffee in a warung.

Singaraja, means Lion King the former Capital city of Bali. Whilst it was under Dutch rule it was abustling centre of commerce & government. Now is a sleepy town with tree lined boulevards & colonial residences. Gedong Kirtya holds a unique Library of Balinese papers made of Lontar palm leaf paper strips inscribed with a special knife & rubbed with charcoal to make it legible. The contents of the Lontar deal with Balinese literature, medicines, and black magic, even comic strips called Prasi.

Singaraja was the first area to be colonized by the Dutch and has via the sea had contact with both the Chinese and Arabs, which has given a special infl uence upon the culture. Singaraja is a very authentic Indonesian city, with genuine markets, which start early in the morning, at 04.00.

The Markets are a great experience for the early bird, where they can see the fresh fruit and fi sh being sold, all sorts of spices, as well as the locals eating the traditional yellow rice. It takes about 15 minutes drive to Singaraja, which has begun to fuse with Lovina.
